DIY Peacock Costume
Make your own costume this year by following this fun DIY Peacock Halloween Costume tutorial!
Let's start with the tail. Gather together your favorite Afloral silk flowers, feathers and rhinestone accents. We choose to highlight the blue of the peacock feathers and picked flowers that were blue, green and teal. You will also need fabric, a needle & thread, and ribbon.
Step 1: Cut the fabric into a circle. Fold in half and sew together. This is the base of the tail.
Step 2: Arrange your feathers on the fabric. When you are happy with the look you can secure the feathers to the fabric with hot glue. Trim all of the feather tips that hang off the end of the fabric using your scissors.
Step 3: Cut the flower stems using wire cutters. The stem should be about 6" long.
Step 4: Begin glueing the flowers to the fabric, completely covering the fabric base.
Step 5: Trim the excess stems from the flower using your wire cutters.
Step 6: Wrap a ribbon around your waist and add about two yards of ribbon to this, then cut. This will give you enough ribbon to make a large bow after you tie it around your waist.
Step 7: Glue the fabric base to the center of the ribbon with the hot glue. You can use your needle and thread for a little extra security.
Now Let's start the headpiece!
Use the same flowers and feathers as you did for the tail. You will also need a plastic headband, two foam sheets, hot glue gun and scissors.
Step 1: Cut the foam sheet into two matching triangles. Gently pull the flower heads off of their stems.
Step 2: On one of the foam triangles begin arranging the silk flowers. When you are happy with the look begin attaching the flowers to the foam. Start with the hydrangeas. You will need to stick the leftover stem through the foam to secure. For the remainder of the flower heads (roses, peonies...) simply hot glue them to the foam.
Step 3: On the other foam triangle arrange the feathers as a spray, just as you did for the tail. Attach the larger peacock feathers first, using hot glue to secure, and then glue down the smaller feathers on top of those. Trim all of the feather tips that hang over the bottom of the foam.
Step 4: Glue together both of the foam triangles, hiding all of the stems in between. Attach the finished design to the headband using hot glue.
That's it! Now get ready for your Halloween party and wow everyone with your handmade costume.
