DIY Flower Crown

Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival has become increasingly popular since its inception in 1999. So much so that the fashion that coincides with this event has become subsequently recognized. One of the most commonly seen accessories is the effervescent flower crown. Learn how to create your own Coachella-inspired headpiece with this simple and fun tutorial!

Materials Needed:
2 Peony Blooms
1 Helleborus Spray
1 Cherry Blossom Spray
2 Waxflower Sprays
Floral Tape
Wire Cutters

Step 1: Measure and trim a piece of wire to fit your head.

Tip: Trim the wire about 1-2" shorter than the diameter of your head as to leave space to tie it on.

Step 2: Create a 1/2" loop at the end of each wire and tightly wrap the ends around the wire to secure. This is where you will be attaching the ribbon!

Step 3: Take the two largest blooms to be your focal point and trim the stems. Make sure to leave 1-1.5" of stem length.

Step 4: Place one bloom slightly off center at the head of your crown and firmly begin wrapping with floral tape to hold the wire and bloom together. Repeat with the second focal bloom. Be sure to leave 3" between the blooms so that accent flowers can be added.

Step 5: Now, you will add your accent blooms. We chose to use two hellebore blooms. Use the floral tape to connect these in between the focal blooms on your crown. Make sure to layer them diagonally to leave room for additional filler flowers.

Step 6: Continue by adding more accent blooms. This time we chose cherry blossoms. Tape those on the far sides of your focal blooms. This will fill in the sides of the crown.

Step 7: Fill in the empty spaces to ensure that the floral tape is covered. We added small white waxflower clusters. Tape these around the hellebore and along the sides to mix in with the cherry blossoms.

Step 8: You will now need your ribbon. Cut two 20" long pieces of ribbon. Continue by feeding the ribbon through each of the loops you had previously created on the crown. Make a knot to secure the ribbon onto the crown.

Voila! You now have your very own flower crown! Place the crown around your head and tie a beautiful bow to trail down your hair.  Have fun mixing and matching florals to match every outfit!
